About LostDutch

The story of a Dutch wanderer

Three cities, countless experiences

My Journey

Hi, I'm the Dutch guy behind LostDutch. What started as a simple move abroad has turned into a decade-long adventure across three very different cities, each teaching me something new about the world and myself.

Hong Kong (2014-2017)

My first real taste of Asia. The vertical city taught me about efficiency, diversity, and how to navigate both literal and figurative density. From learning to love dim sum to understanding the rhythm of typhoon season, Hong Kong opened my eyes to how different life could be.

Dallas, Texas (2017-2022)

After the intensity of Hong Kong, Dallas was a completely different adventure. The sprawling metroplex showed me American hospitality, the importance of air conditioning, and how BBQ can be both art and science. I learned to drive on the right side of the road and discovered that "y'all" is genuinely useful.

Kuala Lumpur (2022-Present)

My current home base in Southeast Asia. KL has given me a new perspective on multicultural living, incredible food diversity, and the perfect blend of modern convenience and traditional culture. It's where I've learned to appreciate the art of slowing down while still moving forward.

Why I Share These Stories

Every city has its tourist attractions, but what I want to share are the real experiences - the local coffee shops where regulars become friends, the neighborhoods where you feel like a local, and the cultural moments that shift your perspective.

As someone who's actually lived in these places, I've experienced the highs and lows that come with making a new city home. From figuring out public transport to finding the best local food, from understanding cultural nuances to building a social network - these are the real adventures.
